One has to give them credit: For an organization that hardly anyone talks about, they have an astonishingly long reach. Chabad Lubavitch, a Hasidic movement founded in 18th-century Belarus and now present in over 900 cities worldwide, is not a synagogue community one occasionally encounters. It is a global network with a reach that would make any PR strategist envious: diplomatic, financial, theological, and political, yet officially "apolitical." This commitment to apoliticalness is one of the great performance arts of modern times.

Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Chabad's representative in Washington, knows, according to author Sue Fishkoff, "virtually every member of Congress, senator, and foreign ambassador in the capital—as well as their assistants, secretaries, and cleaning staff." This isn't an exaggeration used as a criticism; it's self-praise. Chabad says this about themselves, proudly, because in their world, networking is a sacrament.

Between 2003 and 2013, the Kushner family donated a total of $342,500 to various Chabad organizations, including $150,000 to Harvard's Chabad Center—the largest single donation from the Kushner Foundation to a Lubawitch institution. Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and at one time the most powerful man in the White House without an oath of office, is an avowed Chabad follower. This is not a conspiracy theory. It's documented in tax returns.

On October 7, 2024—the anniversary of the Hamas attack—Donald Trump visited the grave of the late Chabad leader Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson in New York, wearing a kippah and leaving a written prayer. This was no random visit. This was symbolic politics with a specific target.

And then there was the state visit. When Netanyahu visited the White House in July 2025, he presented Trump with a dollar bill from Rebbe Schneerson as a state gift—plus a mezuzah made from the wreckage of an Iranian missile. A dollar from the Rebbe. As a state gift. From a sitting prime minister to a sitting US president. The White House raised no concerns regarding protocol.

Chabad Lubavitch: The invisible hand that pulls world leaders by the sleeve

Netanyahu himself describes his first meeting with Schneerson in 1984 with the words: "He said, 'You will light a candle of truth in the hall of darkness.'" To this day, he keeps a photograph of himself with the Rebbe in his office. This is not a minor detail. This is the Israeli Prime Minister's personal compass.

In 2025, a Chabad representative publicly declared: “We see world leaders—including non-Jews—publicly stating that the Rebbe influences their decisions and their lives.” Said with undisguised pride. Unnoticed by virtually no one.

Regarding the political drift: For years, Chabad cultivated the image of an apolitical movement – then an increasing alliance with Itamar Ben-Gvir and his far-right party began. Chabad's messianic and right-wing ideology became increasingly prominent. Israel's opposition leader Yair Lapid openly criticized this: "You can't claim to represent all Jews all year round and then become a political movement at the election."

That is the core problem. Not theology. Not tradition. But the incongruity between the official self-image – an apolitical community, an outreach movement, a spiritual home for every Jew worldwide – and the documented reality: a highly political network with direct lines to the world's most powerful offices, which is systematically expanding its sphere of influence and using religious authority as a cover.

A distinction must be made here, one that regularly collapses in public debate: Chabad Lubavitch is not "the Jews." It is a specific ultra-Orthodox movement with a specific ideology—the messianic belief that Schneerson was or will be the Moshiach, and a worldview in which the Jewish people have a special cosmic role to fulfill. This belief shapes political positions. Naming this is not hostility toward Jews, just as criticism of the Society of St. Pius X is not hostility toward Catholics.

A legitimate question to ask is: How is it that a religious organization with tens of thousands of members has access to US presidents, Israeli prime ministers, Argentinian heads of state and Russian oligarchs – and all this largely outside of democratic control, accountability or public debate?

The movement analyst summarized it this way: Chabad's modest membership conceals an organizational structure that has achieved an extraordinary penetration of the highest levels of international power – through decentralized networks rather than centralized institutions, which allows it to influence events while remaining largely hidden.

Largely in secret. That's the operational summary.

The question is not whether Chabad exists and has influence. The question is why this influence is so rarely the subject of critical reporting – and who has become accustomed to this remaining the case…

My blog was never designed to spread news, let alone get political, but with current affairs I just can't help but capture information here that is otherwise censored on all other channels. I am aware that the design page may not seem "serious" to many in this regard, but I will not change this to please the "mainstream". Anyone who is open to non-state-compliant information sees the content and not the packaging. I've tried enough to provide people with information over the last 2 years, but quickly noticed that it never matters how it's "packaged", but what the other person's attitude towards it is. I don't want to put honey on anyone's mouth to meet expectations in any way, so I'll keep this design because hopefully at some point I'll be able to stop making these political statements, because it's not my goal to go on like this forever ;) I leave it up to everyone how they deal with it.
