A sign of the times in the age of the mentally ill: The statue of a breastfeeding man, unveiled in the foyer of the Gender Museum in the Danish city of Aarhus, has sparked a debate in the Danish public. The 3,5-meter-high statue depicts a naked man with long hair and a beard. From a report by Sputnik News :
The 3,5 meter high statue "Agape", the Greek word for the highest form of love, depicts a naked man who has classic male features such as broad shoulders, narrow hips, a penis and a beard, but also has female breasts and is breastfeeding a baby.
Named agape, the Greek word for the highest form of love (as opposed to eros, erotic love, and philia, brotherly love), the statue was created using 3D scans of her own body and of his girlfriend's body. According to the artist Aske Jonatan Kreilgaard, the aim of the statue is "to question what the man should be and what he should be able to do".
According to Kreilgaard, the sculpture was not created with the intention of provocation. However, he welcomes the resulting discussion. "I'm glad that people are starting to talk about these things. I find it exciting to see what emotions this triggers, and we don't necessarily have to agree," Aske Jonatan Kreilgaard told TV2.
