They still exist, concerts on a very small scale, but in general I really miss them a lot in the current situation! The old rockers from "The Flaming Lips" actually played on a larger scale in front of a real live audience instead of the usual recording or streaming from empty venues! This was made possible by plastic balls, which made "bubble boys and girls" out of everyone using them - so that musicians and fans alike could rock out, taking into account the protective measures currently in force, and probably also have had the strangest concert experience of their lives.
Lead singer Wayne Coyne has been using the inflatable bubbles for years to be carried over the crowd by the audience. When Covid-19 broke out, the band finally came up with the idea of putting the entire band and the concert guests in the giant plastic bubbles. Before that, they tested the concept on a small scale for two TV concerts. Now the group of seven gave a major live concert for the first time. According to Coyne, the air in a bubble is sufficient for up to an hour. The band plans to let up to three people in a bubble in the future. The band believes their inflatable initiative could be a way for musicians to keep performing in the current climate. Around 100 guests, each in a bubble, were present at the live show at the Criterion in Oklahoma City. The concert hall usually has space for 4000 visitors. The event on Monday also served not only as a concert, but also as a music video shoot.
It's definitely cool to be stuck in such things and especially Pogen has to make you feel good with them - but that's nothing in the long run. Below we see «The Flaming Lips» Colbert their classic «Race For The Prize» from the live double album «The Soft Bulletin: Live at Red Rocks featuring The Colorado Symphony Orchestra» perform in bubbles.
