How does it feel to be constantly hit on as a woman on the street? To answer this question, actress Shoshana B. Roberts was sent to stroll through Manhattan for ten hours in a T-shirt and jeans, a microphone in each hand and without a peep. In front of her is the filmmaker Rob Bliss, who has a GoPro camera hidden in his backpack.
Roberts has to listen to over a hundred sayings from men: "Hey baby", "God bless you" and "beautiful" are among the harmless. It gets worse when a man says, "Someone is noticing your beauty. You should say thank you more often." Others walk alongside the actress unbidden for several minutes and to be honest I don't want to switch places with the woman, it's just sad.
Roberts says about the organization Hollaback, who commissioned the video: "I get harassed when I smile and I get harassed when I don't smile. I get harassed by whites, blacks, and latinos. Not a day goes by that I don't experience that."
