Aaron Swartz, co-founder of Reddit and known for his work against internet censorship, was literally driven to his death. The film tells the story of Internet activist and developer Aaron Swartz, a programming prodigy. From helping develop the RSS web feed format to helping found Reddit, Aaron Swartz has left his footprints all over the internet. His advocacy for social justice and free access to information on the web entangled him in a legal nightmare that ended in his suicide.
It's time to come into the light and, in the great tradition of civil disobedience, show our opposition to this private theft of public culture.
We need to take information from wherever it is stored, make our own copies and share them with the rest of the world. We need to take things that are out of copyright and add them to this archive. We need to buy access to secret databases and put them online. We need to download scientific journals and feed them into file-sharing networks. We must fight for guerrilla open access.
If we are enough people worldwide, we will not only send a message of our opposition to the privatization of knowledge - we will make it a part of the past.
