Urban legends claim that humans swallow seven to eight spiders in their sleep each year. There is no evidence for this. However, a case from India proves that cockroaches do crawl over faces at night. Like the Indian daily newspaper «New indian express» reported a 42-year-old woman presented to the hospital at the Stanley Medical College in Chennai after waking up with a headache during the night. The stinging feeling was right between her eyes - and it was moving!
The maid was certain it was an insect that had crawled up her nose into her head and was now moving behind her forehead. But at the first clinic she went to, after a brief examination, she was sent away with no results. A second doctor suspected that it could be a skin growth in the nose. Only the third doctor recognized what it really was. It was a cockroach - and it was alive! "It was located at the base of the skull, between the eyes, close to the brain," the doctor treating the newspaper described the test result. There are always cases where maggots have to be removed from the skin or crickets from ears, but this was a novelty for him too. "It is the first case of this kind that I have experienced in my three decades as a doctor." The doctor used suction cup and tweezers to remove the cockroach. "It was difficult to remove because it was so awkward," said the doctor, who filmed the final sequence of the procedure. “I first had to move them to a place from which I could pull them out. After 45 minutes it was finally removed."
