Friends, I like this cover and even before you hear the first sounds of the second Jokers record, the visual impression of the cover has already raised some expectations! Emerging from a grave between the tombstones of Jimi Hendrix and Bon Scott, this muscular Mad Max-style Doctor somehow resembles Eddi incarnate from Iron Maiden and would easily pass for a Marvel hero. Do I have to say something about the music of «The Jokers» to be said? Hell yeah! In fact, bluesy hard rock sits squarely between the guitar god Hendrix and the hard rocking blues of AC/DC. Not too soft, not too heavy. You don't quarrel with the music of «The Jokers» for long, but immediately get a taste for it. Their robust rock'n'roll goes straight to the stomach and legs, has groove and blues and shines with great melodies and powerful riffs.
The Jokers are brothers Paul and Simon Hurst (guitar and bass), Chris Poole (drums) and vocalist and frontman Wane Parry. Their debut album "The Big Rock'n Roll Show" was released in 2009 and achieved amazing sales figures within a few months. The disc was named album of the month by the British magazine «Powerplay» in July 2009 and was generally praised for its great quality. Countless shows in dingy clubs and dubious dive bars followed, which only had one goal for the four musicians: to make The Jokers known and to grow artistically. "We're a hard-working band, playing as much as we can and learning from it all the time," explains Paul Hurst. «With us everything is honest and authentic, our goal is: to be successful and to make people happy.»
The fans of this fabulous band will certainly be happy with the latest disc «Rock'n Roll Is Alive». The album didn't get a particularly original name with this name, but with authentic, classic and powerful rock music nobody asks for it. No wonder that this hot and hungry young band from Liverpool has everything that makes honest and authentic rock music: In a country like England, where the long tradition of legendary groups like The Who, Free, Mott The Hoople, The Faces or Led Zeppelin speaks a clear language, in 2013 the breeding ground for promising young formations is still ideal. The band, along with producer Andy MacPherson (Eric Clapton, The Who, Barclay James Harvest, The Buzzcocks), bagged a really dirty piece of rock 'n' roll.

The eleven tracks of the new album are convincing. Songs like the wonderfully grooving opener «Silver City», the sophisticated arpeggio guitar-based «Radio», which contains a bit of ZZ Top, a dash of Kiss and a dash of Heaven's Basement, and which are deliberately free-oriented «Find My Way Home» important cornerstones of the album. "Of course we were able to develop further as a band and composer through the many concerts," says Paul Hurst happily, "on our debut we were even more limited financially and artistically, this time we had Andy, a producer who believed in us and said: ' Don't worry about the cost, you only pay what you can afford.'” Spread over nearly two years, The Jokers worked with producer Andy Macpherson on Rock 'n' Roll Is Alive for a total of five months. "Today we are stylistically clearer than four years ago," Hurst describes the audible differences between the 2009 debut and the current album, "the songs are even more rocking, more self-contained and more direct in the sound. You can tell we're even more proud of our songs today and really love every single note on Rock'n'Roll Is Alive." And that's exactly what you can hear on the disc!
The disc will be released on August 30th, 2013 via Steamhammer/SPV and will delight all rock music fans. Hurst: «We have developed noticeably in the past 24 months and are now presenting an album that rightly bears its title. Rock'n'Roll is a way of life, it means freedom, tolerance and self-realization. Our new disc reflects all of this perfectly.” I agree! The four-piece troupe is the prime example of how to transport classic rock music into the present, while neither denying the illustrious past of this music genre nor missing modernity and topicality. Their second album "Rock'n'Roll Is Alive" is a celebration for all fans of classic rock music and is deeply rooted in the 1970s and of course there is the sound that "The Jokers" play, also from countless other bands, but as long as the music I don't care if it's fun - and the disc is definitely fun!
