Today, around 8500 recruits join the 2007/2008 winter season, including around 1250 full-time servants and 32 women, a total of 10 percent more than a year ago.
It is well known that conscription these days takes three days instead of five hours like a few years ago and costs – as can be read – 600 francs per recruit and day. In addition to the sports test and the health check-up, it now also includes a series of psychological tests on the PC. Among other things, it is tested how intelligent the young men are, how well they can concentrate and solve problems, whether they are fearless and stress-resistant. Social skills are also tested. Evidence of emotional stability can be found in answers such as: "I don't get upset that easily" or "Sometimes I just can't make up my mind". For example, someone who "finds a solution to every problem" is considered resilient. The aim is to gain as comprehensive and well-rounded a picture of the young people as possible.
Since the spring of this year, the army has launched a pilot program for smoking cessation in various recruit schools (such as Herisau, Aarau and Frauenfeld) schwacherwitty title «Cease the fire». With today's start of the Winter RS, the program will be expanded to include the Panzer RS Thun. According to the army, participation in the program is voluntary. Recruits who are willing to stop smoking are taken care of by the military medical staff (whose Incompetence I have already been able to experience) of the respective hospital departments. Of the approximately 80 recruits involved in the program, all of them either quit smoking or severely restricted their cigarette consumption.
