Anyone who grew up in the 80s will be able to do something with «apply, polish». Probably the best-known quote from the film "The Karate Kid", which resulted in several moderately successful sequels and a remake, has now been revived as a series. When “Cobra Kai” was announced in the middle of the previous year, the response was muted. Many doubted whether the concept, which was so successful at the time, can be brought into modern times or whether it can be passed on. Since the beginning of May, the series has been available on a "channel" that has so far hardly played a role in the business of fictional productions such as series: YouTube Red. How Variety reported, the market research company Parrot Analytics has calculated that "Cobra Kai" in the period between May 6 and 12, the competition from Netflix (including "13 Reasons Why" and "Arrested Development") and Hulu ("The Handmaid's Tale) on the could refer places and that too clearly. It's the first time that YouTube Red, which previously had to be ranked in the "Under Also Running" category, has achieved such success.
Josh Heald («Hot Tub Time Machine») and «Harold & Kumar» creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are the writers and producers behind «Cobra Kai». The cast also includes Xolo Maridueña as one of Johnny's students, Miguel, who is bullied at his school. Courtney Henggeler ("Mom") plays Daniel's wife Amanda, while Mary Mouser ("Freakish") plays daughter Samantha. Tanner Buchanan from "Designated Survivor" as Johnny's son Robby wants nothing to do with his dad and Ed Asner ("Buddy - The Christmas Elf") is Johnny's disappointed stepfather Sid. The first season consists of ten half-hour episodes, of which you can watch a sample of the first two eposides right here. From the 3rd episode, €3 will be charged per episode. The series is so successful that YouTube Red has ordered a second season with ten half-hour episodes, which is scheduled to run next year.
The old mentor Mr. Miyagi would certainly not be happy with how Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny (William Zabka) have developed 30 years after their meeting in "Karate Kid".
