If you thought that Devildriver didn't want to drop another "higher-faster-further" bomber with the last album "Pray for villains", "Beast" will quickly teach you otherwise. Holy shit, the direction is clear after just a few bars: Here the inclined listener gets a brutal Thrash-Death-Metal blast. One who has washed! Then a devildriver around frontman Dez Fafara gets a lump of rage in his ears that the earth trembles! The production of «Beast» is rock hard. What pushes out of the speakers is nothing other than an angry Balrog from the depths of the Lord of the Rings universe - even the speakers wave the white flag.
Even the opening triple "Dead to rights", "Bring the fight (to the floor)" and "Hardened" is a really hard chunk to digest, even though you're used to DevilDriver's hard stuff. The driving force is once again drummer John Boecklin, who mixes a concrete foundation with Jon Miller on bass. The accentuated bass attacks are joined by powerful and precisely played riffs by the two guitarists Jeff Kendrick and Mike Spreitzer. It looks like Urmacht Dez Fafara pumped up some Black Metal and Punk Rock on his MP3 player on the last tour. The songwriting took almost a year and practically had to be written on the street since the band was constantly on the move. The lyrics are not spoken through the flower, or yelled, but are very direct. Among other things, singer Dez Fafara processes the emotions of tour life.
Producer Mark Lewis (All That Remains, Trivium) did a great job on «Beast» and gave the band an incredibly powerful sound. Raging riff descents with pounding drums, it can make you dizzy. The following "Shitlist" seems a bit more accessible, which also applies to "Crowns of creation" in the further course. "You make me sick" and "Coldblooded" are straighter, but overall you miss one or the other gripping hook line that the band was so known for in the past. Shortly before the end, a future live killer is knocked out with the 16 Horsepower cover «Black soul choir». Alone how poisonous Dez Fafara «Every man is evil, yes! Every man's a liar!» barks out, is abnormally cool!
It is well known that DevilDriver give everything in the studio as well as on stage. Her appearance at the English Download Festival in 2007 is still legendary, when what is said to have been the largest circle pit in history to date was created during the show. Anyone who has followed the last interviews with Dez Fafara is clear: the band has a mission - "to work hard, rock harder, and kick as many asses as possible in the process".
Conclusion: The suggestion hammer rules here! Fans of modern Thrash Metal will get their money's worth! It is difficult to name particular highlights of the CD, as each title has its interesting moments and each song shines through other characteristics. Front devil Dez Fafara and his men experience a further increase in aggressiveness with "Beast". If you like rough bass thunderstorms and heavy guitar riffs, you won't be able to avoid «Beast». "Beast" is by far the fastest and most brutal work of the Santa Barbara band. The vocals are the focus, but never crowd out the instruments. The overall sound is brilliant and flawless. That's how metal should be!

So I think the album is rather mediocre to bad compared to its predecessor. The songs hardly stick in your head, it's always a routine (atmospheric intro -> banging away -> slow down -> banging). Only the previously hyped song "Dead to rights" stands out a little from the monotony.
Overall I'm a little disappointed, even if the drummer goes off again, like Schnitzel ^^
You are not entirely wrong - and yet the album has completely grabbed me, at least for the moment
