Esperten believe that the Cyclops myth may have its origins in the discovery of a skull of a prehistoric dwarf elephant and misinterpreted its nasal cavity as a large eye socket. Today we know that people and animals born with only one eye suffer from a rare genetic disease called Cyclopia, "a rare malformation of the face and skull in which the two eye structures fuse in a bony eye socket (orbit) in the fetus". Animals born with this congenital malformation rarely live very long - but a baby goat born in Assam, India and nicknamed "The Cyclops Kid" defies all expectations and could live long enough to actually grow up become.
«The Cyclops Kid» was born on May 10th, 2017 in the home of Mukhuri Das, who sees the cute little guy as a divine blessing:
I was shocked. It's like a miracle and people have been coming to our place to see this baby goat. ... It's my responsibility to take care of the baby goat. I have been feeding him like a normal goat. It might be something from God that the baby goat was born in our house. He So many people are coming to our place to see this baby goat ...
