Here we see him accomplish many incredible feats such as slaying the great warrior Ubba and fighting alongside Alfred the Great, who uses his sword and wits to ensure his kingdom does not fall to the Vikings. But Uhtred was very real and based on a man named Uhtred the Bold, the Ealdorman of Northumbria. The events in the series take place in the late 9th century when England still had multiple kingdoms and kings.
