The story of a band that was to become one of the most successful of all time began in Los Angeles in 1985. The hard rock band featuring Axl Rose and Slash changed rock history with their uncompromising sound. Riots, escapades and canceled concerts were part of the good manners at Guns N' Roses. Jon Brewer's documentary takes you on a trip straight into the abysses of rock'n'roll.
This documentary features previously unreleased archival footage from the early days of the Sunset Strip club shows, spanning from the early days to the peak of worldwide stardom and the band's implosion, which Axl Rose carried on alone in 1997. Interviews with the band members and many music excerpts provide a glimpse into the world that made Guns N' Roses great. The film also tells of the costs for shamans and masseuses, of long-accustomed delays and legal disputes. Chilean authorities are said to have even threatened to kill Axl Rose if he didn't go back on stage. Of course, the excessive rock 'n' roll life also included drug abuse, imprisonment and suicide attempts. Perhaps Slash was right when he once claimed that the band's story was an "adult fairy tale". The film can be seen here until May 9, 2018 or at arte.tv available.
