«Invasion» ist ein neues Science Fiction-Format vom Emmy-Produzenten-Team um Simon Kinberg (X-Men-Franchise, Deadpool-Filme, Der Marsianer – Rettet Mark Watney) und David Weil (Amazon Studios‘ Hunters), in dem es uns, der Menschheit, endgültig an den Kragen gehen könnte! Der Trailer zum apokalyptischen Event beginnt mit der besorgten Stimme einer Frau, die der Welt ein surreal klingendes Problem mitzuteilen versucht und dabei selbst nicht so recht glauben kann, was da gleich für Worte ihren Mund verlassen müssen.
Und dennoch hätte uns wahrscheinlich nichts auf das vorbereiten können, was jetzt kommt. Denn erste Zeichen (Englisch: „Signs“ – wohl ein Wink an M. Night Shyamalans Alien-Thriller mit Mel Gibson) deuten auf eine potenzielle Alien-Invasion hin, die das Leben, wie wir es kennen, für immer verändern könnte! Tatsächlich bleibt es nicht bei der Theorie: Kurz darauf schlagen auf unserem Erdenrund mysteriöse Objekte ein, aus denen dreibeinige Monster hervorgehen, die ein wenig an die fremdartigen Aliens aus Denis Villeneuves «Arrival» erinnern, im Gegensatz dazu aber keine Probleme damit zu haben scheinen, unseren Sauerstoff und die damit verbundenen Organismen einzuatmen.
Und wenn es nach Apple geht, dann soll es unbedingt Jurassic Park-Ikone Sam Neill sein, der unseren Kopf aus der Schlinge zieht und vor dem Schlimmsten bewahrt. Er stolpert als erster über die mysteriösen Kornkreise. Neill ist aber Teil eines noch viel grösseren Casts, zu dem Co-Stars wie Shamier Anderson (Stowaway – Blinder Passagier), Golshifteh Farahani (Extraction), Firas Nassar (Fauda) und Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2) gehören. Die für den 22. Oktober 2021 angekündigte erste Staffel spielt sich auf der ganzen Welt ab – eine willkommene Abwechslung zu den sonst so US-zentrierten Untergangsgeschichten der vergangenen Jahre – und soll die Invasion aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln und Perspektiven beleuchten. Regie führte Emmy-Anwärter Jakob Verbruggen, in dessen Filmografie der Netflix-Hit «The Alienist» oder «The Fall» zu finden sind.
