Films in the style of "Universal Soldier" once turned Jean-Claude Van Damme into action heroes, and in recent years he has tried to reach a larger audience with self-deprecating performances. In fact, the comedic action thriller «JCVD» was received relatively positively in 2008 by the otherwise mostly reserved critics, and the Amazon series «Jean-Claude Van Johnson» initially seemed to be a similar success. Ultimately, however, the mockumentary, in which "The Muscles from Brussels" struggled with his own persona as an action hero, was canceled due to insufficient interest. The action film “Lukas” puts an end to self-mockery and winking.
Directed by French director Julien Leclercq (In the Eye of the Wolf), Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a bouncer who has lost custody of his daughter. To regain this, he must carry out a dangerous assignment for Interpol. Admittedly, the plot doesn't exactly call for an originality award, but the trailer makes a surprisingly good impression with its dark look. In France, the film will start in cinemas on August 22, 2018. In our latitudes there is no theatrical release for "Lukas" yet, maybe we will have to be content with a release on Blu-ray and DVD again...
