Today, Friends of the Crypt, there is another episode of the macabre but entertaining documentary series, with the core topic of how people have tormented and tortured in recent centuries. With scientific experiments torture devices are tested again and explained in detail, today from the Middle Ages:
In 1252, torture during inquisition proceedings was officially approved by papal decree. This ecclesiastical ordinance triggered a wave of violence in Europe that is unparalleled to this day. With the help of gruesome instruments of murder, torturers extorted innumerable confessions in the dark cellars of the Inquisition. The rack was often used here, a device that at first glance seems almost harmless and very popular during interrogations. Their pulling devices made it possible to precisely dose the pain inflicted on victims. Dislocated joints, torn muscles and tendons - the overstretching of the body caused unimaginable agony among the delinquents. Surveys with thumbscrews and head presses were somewhat less popular, but equally feared.
