The trend today is that every object is somehow equipped with a processor, so that it can then be called “smart”. Starts with kettles and most recently ends with smart luggage. The startup IKAP robotics presented the first intelligent suitcase with «Olive». The suitcase follows its owner like a Segway on two wheels and balances independently. Olive can even be mounted like a real Segway at the push of a button and transports its owner to the destination. But the cool feature is that it can use image recognition to find the owner and follow him, and that should also work in the busy airport halls. An alarm warns the owner if he accidentally leaves the suitcase behind, lock/unlock with NFC, the integrated 10 mAh battery charges electronic devices, WiFi and Bluetooth connection to the smartphone or smartwatch and Olive combines GPS with 000G/3G connection around the to locate suitcases. So, should Olive ever get lost, the GPS module and 4G/3G connectivity will help you find the suitcase - no matter where in the world it is.
I find a practical idea, especially the combination of various needs when traveling with the integrated scales and the battery. But I dare to doubt whether autonomous suitcases are likely to become a hit with the security concerns at airports ...
