Pop, pop, pop - the sound of drops falling into the water. Who hasn't heard or seen this lately? Coop relies on an eco-song from stress and he composed the song "On n'a qu'une terre" - We only have one earth - especially for this.
Stress has chosen the Aral Sea in Kazakhstan as the location for the 3-minute video and the Coop commercial. This fourth largest inland sea in the world has been destroyed because of human environmental sins. The water of the two tributaries of the Aral Sea was pumped out to irrigate gigantic agricultural projects and has now withdrawn between 100 and 150 kilometers from its original shores. The health situation is disastrous: the lake has the highest child mortality rate in the former Soviet Union. Respiratory diseases such as asthma and bronchial allergies are common. Because when the water disappeared, salt as well as toxic pesticides and chemicals from intensive agriculture remained.
The Stress album, Renaissance (Universal), will be released on November 9th in a special edition: It contains the Stress song from the Coop TV spot, the making of, concert recordings and a documentary about the artist. Andres Andrekson aka Stress: «These stranded ships are a symbol of decline. The sight of this desert is depressing."
If you are interested in the lyrics of this song, here are those German translation:
(Verse 1 :)
When he grows up and asks me:
"Why are there no more fish in the sea?"
What do I answer then? That I didn't know
Or that I didn't care?
And if he asks me:
"Father! Is it just because of the wood
that you destroyed the lungs of the earth?
What am I supposed to breathe with now?"I would appear irresponsible and incompetent.
As a guilty person who behaves inexcusably.A broken nature, a world full of CO2:
Is this really the future
that we want to create for you? It's about respect. And what we have to achieve
is sustainable action: for you, for us and for our earth.
Discussions are all well and good.
But actions are better.
We have to make the difference today
because we can.(refrain:)
Go on, use up, use up! Destroy, destroy!
Log the forest, log the forest! Light it up, light it up!
But what do you do when our future
between hammer and anvil?
When everything burns and goes up in flames?
And our earth looks like the moon?
What do you do when our future
between hammer and anvil?(Verse 2 :)
Don't say you don't see and feel them
this change. Don't lie to me!
The climate is going crazy. What are you waiting for?
How many more Katrinas does it take to understand?I don't want to stand in the dry sea and say:
"Maybe I should have separated my waste."
It's a mistake for us, but a sin for our children.
Everyone is outraged, but nobody seems to be in a hurry.I don't want to see water cost as much as oil.
Or there is no more oil at all.
We will get the bill for our omissions.
I didn't become "Mister Öko", that's for sure!
But with what I know today
can I do better tomorrow.
…or here in original French.
I usually find metaloid sounds better than any hip hop stuff, but there are exceptions in the area of old school rap. But this song is not bad for a Swiss rapper, even if it is a little bad at being good or eco-friendly and the whole of Switzerland will surely be full of praise for it. And Melanie Winiger, the better half of Stress, does she find the shipwrecks depressing too? She announced several times that she likes to drive big cars and at the moment, as you can hear, has a VW Tuareg, which is not necessarily a small car either ...
You're right: Thinking or even remembering our current state of pollution (of everything) from time to time is definitely not a bad thing.
But I have trouble accepting that "Stress" tries to present itself with a sad message in order to, of course, rake in pleasant sales figures.
I have trouble with this "pressing on the tear gland". I may be a bit prejudiced against "stress", but I definitely prefer the old-school raps you mentioned more honestly and dearly. (Example: Del tha phunkee Homosapien - Dr. Bombay / Or Jurassif 5 - Freedom)
But at least I'm happy to hear that there are other Metalheads out there who need a dose of old school rap every now and then =)
