The DC blockbuster with Robert Pattinson will hit the cinemas in 2022. Nothing is known about the exact plot yet. According to the director, the film has a new story that is not an origin story, but rather aims to highlight Batman's status as the world's best super detective. So far, the blockbuster has been described as a kind of dark detective noir, for which Pattinson is intensively preparing.
After being played by Ben Affleck in the DCEU films "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League", Batman was also set to have his own solo film. In 2016, Affleck was confirmed to direct and star in The Batman, while Joe Manganiello was announced as the villain Deathstroke. This was followed by regular worrying reports about the production of the DC film. According to the first rumours, Ben Affleck's screenplay was supposed to be a mess, although he backtracked a little later on his participation and commented publicly about the planned film, annoyed. Shortly thereafter, the official announcement followed that Ben Affleck was stepping down as director of The Batman. The reasons ranged from the actor's personal problems to his dissatisfaction with the way the superhero was treated in the artistically botched Justice League theatrical version. As an actor, he will still be seen in the role again. Affleck has been signed to appear as Batman in the forthcoming The Flash solo film.
In the story, Batman will probably investigate a brutal series of murders. In his search for the culprit, he encounters various well-known DC villains who are given short or longer appearances or are introduced for subsequent films. The DC film is directed by Matt Reeves. He previously directed films such as Cloverfield, Let Me In, Planet of the Apes: Revolution and Planet of the Apes: Survival. Matt Reeves also wrote the screenplay for The Batman. He received support from Peter Craig, who co-wrote, among other things, two "Hunger Games" films and "Bad Boys For Life". Due to its harshness, the gloomy first trailer already suggests that the film could get an FSK rating from us for ages 16 and over. The cast consists of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Paul Dano as Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns as Commissioner Pete Savage and Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál.
