The Titanoboa was a giant snake that lived in South America around 60 million years ago. A group around the Canadian Charlie Brinson has now revived the giant snake as a robot. Like the prototype, the modern image will also have huge dimensions: the finished snake robot with the name Titanoboa will be 15 meters long. The diameter is between 30 centimeters and 1 meter. The head and vertebrae of the snake are made of aluminum. The inside of Titanoboa consists of hydraulic cylinders that are controlled by an Arduino microcontroller.
Titanoboa is currently two-thirds ready: The snake that is currently 10 meters long has 20 vortices and 40 hydraulic cylinders. 10 vertebrae and 20 cylinders are still missing, as is the polyethylene skin that covers the skeleton. In the end, the monster will weigh a good ton. The aim of the builders is to mechanically imitate the movement of a snake and to try out alternative forms of propulsion for transport.
