In the USA, a “Red Eye” is the name given to a night flight on which passengers who have not had enough sleep arrive in the morning with red eyes. The plot of the thriller «Red Eye. Night Flight to Death» by Wes Craven takes place during a night flight from Dallas to Miami. What is shown here is implausible, but the pace of the film is so breathtaking that you don't even get to think about the improbability of scenes and connections. You see an exciting, fast-paced thriller and it's best not to take it all too seriously.
Films, like music, are a matter of taste. This is shown by the very different reviews of this film, which were released tonight on Sunday, September 30.09th. the ORF1 broadcasts between 00:25 and 01:40. In my opinion, Red Eye is a solid film that builds tension from the start and holds it through to the end. The story isn't necessarily new, but it's well done in this film. The threat in a narrow airplane with little room for maneuver for the threatened person is depicted very vividly and there is more than enough action in this film:
Hotel worker Lisa Reisert returns to Miami from Dallas after her grandmother's funeral. While waiting for the late night flight, she meets the likable Jackson Rippner. The two passengers also sit next to each other on the plane. During the flight, Rippner reveals himself as a contract killer. His clients want to assassinate the deputy minister of the Ministry of Homeland Security Charles Keefe, who is staying with his family in Lisa's hotel. In the event that Lisa doesn't help them, he threatens to have her father, Joe, killed. Lisa first tries to make other passengers aware of her situation by making notes in a book and a message in the toilet. When all attempts fail, she finally gives in and over the phone asks her colleague to move the Keefe family to another hotel room, where the family is to be killed by a rocket.
After landing, Lisa manages to escape by ramming a pen into the throat of the person sitting next to her. However, Jackson doesn't give up and pursues Lisa, but to no avail. She can warn the colleague in her hotel just in time of the impending attack so that the Keefes can be brought to safety. Since the battery of her cell phone is empty after the call, she cannot reach her father and drives to her father's house. At the last moment she overpowers the hit man who was supposed to kill her father by running over him. But suddenly Rippner appears in the house. He wants to kill Lisa and her father in revenge for the failed plan. A wild chase ensues through the house, which only ends when she and her father shoot Jackson Rippner in self-defense.
