The first trailer for «47 Ronin» gives us a glimpse of what to expect. Monsters, witches and samurai. Sounds like a different kind of mixture. The film is based on a historical story in which 47 masterless samurai avenged the murder of their liege lord in 1702 and thus went down in Japanese history as a prime example of the unconditional loyalty of the samurai. Although the story is not new and has been filmed countless times, «47 Ronin» is now the first English-language version of the material. The shooting took place in 2011 and so the samurai fantasy film should already be in the cinemas in November 2012. Then it was pushed back to February 2013, only to end up getting a later start date. In January 2014 the film will finally be shown in our latitudes.
Kai (Keanu Reeves) is an outlaw in 47 Ronin, who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his 47 Ronin. Together they want to take revenge on the treacherous courtier Lord Kira (Tadanobu Asano), who killed their leader and disregarded their kind, as a result of which they were degraded from upright samurai to abandoned ronin. To restore the honor of their homeland, they embark on a journey of trials that no ordinary warrior would endure.
