The science fiction film "Approaching the Unknown" is somewhat reminiscent of "The Martian - Save Mark Watney". It is not only the same goal that connects the two spaceships and astronauts, the loneliness of an astronaut is also in the foreground. The science fiction film is directed by the still unknown Mark Elijah Rosenberg, who also wrote the screenplay for "Approaching the Unknown". As you can see in the trailer, the young filmmaker focuses less on special effects and more on the psychological horror that arises when a person spends several days and months alone in space on an impossible mission and has to face difficult decisions. Approaching the Unknown will be released in cinemas in the US&A on June 3, 2016 and will be released as VoD at the same time. When and if this will be the case in our latitudes is not yet clear.
NASA astronaut Captain William D. Stanaforth (Mark Strong) prepares for his flight to Mars. He is leaving his family for this, although the one-man flight will probably only be a one-way flight with no return. It is planned differently, but when the life support systems of the ship collapse, Stanaforth also has to struggle with problems.
