Im Vorprogramm zu «ES: Kapitel 2» läuft der Teaser-Trailer zu «Birds of Prey» (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Die explizit auf den zweiten Auftritt von Pennywise zugeschnittene Vorschau war eigentlich nie fürs Internet vorgesehen, hat nun aber trotzdem den Weg ins Netz und damit zu uns gefunden. In dem 30-sekündigen Video macht Harley Quinn kurzen Prozess mit den blutroten Ballons des Horror-Clowns und überlässt im Anschluss daran ersten actionreichen Szenen aus ihrem eigenen Kino-Spin-off das Feld. Und es wird deutlich: Dank anvisiertem R-Rating kommt «Birds of Prey» viel härter daher als «Suicide Squad».
Letzterer setzte noch auf das deutlich massentauglichere PG-13, was von vielen Fans heftig kritisiert wurde. Darum soll das auf Harley Quinn fokussierte Spin-off ein Zeichen setzen. «‹Birds of Prey› ist ein knallharter Superhelden-Actionfilm mit R-Rating», verkündet Robbie. In dieser Hinsicht eifert der Film also eher «Deadpool» oder «Logan» als «Suicide Squad» nach, die das früher so unbeliebte R-Rating inzwischen auch bei Superheldenfilmen salonfähig gemacht haben. Neben Harley Quinn geben sich auch Comic-Wegbegleiter wie Mary Elizabeth Winstead (The Thing) als Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell als Black Canary oder Ella Jay Basco als Cassandra Cain/Batgirl die Ehre. Ihnen stellt sich Ewan McGregor (Doctor Sleep) als Bösewicht Black Mask entgegen. Weitere Rollen gehen an Ali Wong (Fresh Off the Boat), Robert Catrini (American Crime Story), Chris Messina (Sharp Objects), Steven Williams (ES) und Derek Wilson (Preacher).
