Screen clear for opus number 100 by the already immortal master director Takashi Miike. Once again he takes on the samurai film. In 13, he let his martial arts highlight "2010 Assassins" culminate in an endless showdown with countless deaths, "Blade Of The Immortal" starts with such a mountain of corpses. Miike revels in costumes and equipment, sprawling martial arts choreographies as well as fountains of blood and body parts flying around. He's never been squeamish and his samurai version of "Leon – The Professional" doesn't mark a change of heart. Subliminally, «Blade Of The Immortal» brings suffering and vengeance to all involved. We find revenge personified in the life-weary warrior Manji and the childlike Rin, but also in her antagonist Anotsu to the same extent. The vicious circle engulfs them all.
