Gigantic primeval giant crocodiles, which would probably have scared even fellow monsters like Godzilla and Kong, live on "Crocodile Island", an island shrouded in legend that is said to be somewhere in the Teufelsmeer, but could just as well be called Skull Island. Basically, who was the godfather and who was scrutinized before the shooting started, cannot be dismissed out of hand. Huge spiders that rise in the undergrowth and impale their prey with quick stings and gigantic prehistoric monsters - they all would probably have felt right at home on King Kong's home island.
Of course, "Crocodile Island" is neither as sophisticated nor staged as expensively as the great Skull Island monster model and otherwise more aimed at delivering the cheapest possible variation for the still heavily regulated domestic film market, where Godzilla and Kong enjoy similar popularity as in the west. And as with the notorious "The Asylum" productions, copies and copies are made as much as they can! Because what the filmmakers Shixing Xu and Simon Zhao bring up here goes far beyond mere imitation and “bowing”, as the film world likes to call it.
"Crocodile Island" seems more like a crude best of the biggest kaiju and monster films of recent years, although it seems to hold a candle to the great role models in at least one respect - the magnificent natural setting. But is that enough to lure monster fans, who are used to far better, out of their reserve? You'll soon be able to see for yourself! If the question of a release of this type of film does not usually arise for our part of the world, this time Splendid Film is making sure that we too can set foot on "Crocodile Island" from September 24th.
