Deepfakes are created quickly and can be dangerous or traumatizing for those depicted. On porn sites there are now clips in which the heads of celebrities or strangers are placed on top of that of the actors with artificial intelligence. The operators do next to nothing about it. Now another deepfake is making the rounds on the internet, showing Hitler and Stalin performing a vocal duet.
The two dictators sing "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles together, which was released in 1980. The facial expressions and facial movements of Adolf and Josef appear authentic - and funny. Apparently, two well-known images of the two dictators were used for the video and the artificial intelligence was then trained with further recordings so that the lips are in sync with the song. Manipulations were also carried out on the eyes, eyebrows and the entire face.
Microsoft, meanwhile, has declared war on deepfakes. A newly introduced tool by the IT giant called "Video Authenticator" is intended to unmask such manipulations. The manipulated videos are currently still mostly created for comedic purposes - however, the technology also entails a certain potential for danger and can also be misused.
