In the retelling of Grimm's classic fairy tale "Gretel & Hansel" by Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat's Daughter, I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House), the well-known story holds a "dark secret" in store for us, which is expressed in the following trailer through strange rituals, hooded figures and human sacrifices covered in blood. However, the basic story that almost all of us were drilled into as children remains largely untouched.
As in the famous Grimm brothers, a young girl (Sophia Lillis) leads her brother (Sammy Leakey) in a desperate search for food into a gloomy forest. There they stumble straight into the hands of an indescribable evil that is lurking in a small house in the form of the witch Holda (Alice Krigge). In the role of the strong, emancipated Gretel we see ES survivor Sophia Lillis (Sharp Objects, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase). Charles Babalola from Mary Magdalene, who was recently admired in Netflix's "Black Mirror" or "Broadchurch", plays the role of the hunter. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Insidious and Sinister) and Fred Berger (La La Land) served as producers for the film, which was set against the idyllic backdrop of the Irish outback and hits American screens on January 31st.
