Special effects professional Steven Kostanski (Manborg, ABCs of Death 2) has been a specialist in handmade, unembellished horror since «The Void». The filmmaker lives up to this hard-earned reputation with his latest project, which ups the ante in terms of madness, blood content, terror and special effects. Because "PG (Psycho Goreman)" is, as the title suggests, bloodthirsty genre cinema in its purest form and deeply rooted in the over-the-top, not entirely serious horror of the eighties.
"As long as I can remember, I've carried this concept around with me," says Kostanski. "I imagined what it would be like to have your own monster. As a kid, I was completely mesmerized by the relationship between John Connor [Edward Furlong] and the T-800 [Arnold Schwarzenegger] in 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' and the way John interacted with his new pal. I secretly dreamed of hanging out with cartoon villains like Skeletor, Megatron, and Cobra Commander. These characters have always been more important to me than classic superheroes." And this special preference drips from every pore in "PG (Psycho Goreman)", perhaps the craziest, most absurd monster fun of the year, a combination of "Masters of the Universe" and "Beastmaster".
Even if the focus on childish leads suggests otherwise, Steven Kostanski makes it unmistakably clear that «PG (Psycho Goreman)» will be a thoroughly grown-up movie experience. "I like the idea of subverting what was believed to be the realm of children's films with shocking violence and real consequences. This topic came up in my ABC's of Death 2 segment W is for Wish. For PG, we took that idea even further and took it to the extreme, creating a completely deranged scenario that could have just sprung from my childhood backyard." The age recommendation at the end of the trailer is accordingly: Rated-R (not suitable for viewers under the age of 17)! With this, «PG (Psycho Goreman)» will celebrate its world premiere next week at the South by Southwest Film Festival...
