«Gutterdämmerung» is a new rock 'n' roll/film/gig concept by Belgian-Swedish visual artist Bjorn Tagemose and is reminiscent of a XNUMX's silent film. Instead of piano music, however, the strip is musically accompanied by a live rock band.
In Gutterdämmerung, God saved the world from sin by taking away from mankind the "Diabolical Holy Grail of Sin", the guitar. As a result, the earth has turned into a puritanical society in which there is no longer any place for sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. From heaven, the punk angel Vicious (Iggy Pop) takes bored note of this and throws the guitar back to earth behind God's back so that all the sins of the world can be resurrected. A devilish priest (Henry Rollins) manipulates a naïve girl into getting his guitar and destroying it. The girl is on her own and has to deal with the worst rock 'n' roll bastards in the world, lousy opponents who make her life hell.
So much for the story, in which as mentioned Iggy Pop plays the angel Vicious, the catalyst of the story. God had left his point angel at the gate of heaven, now humanity is being tested and it looks like Vicious is not yet ready to ascend into the divine part of heaven.Grace Jones is the only person able to control rock and roller testosterone. She is the ultimate nemesis, an African deity from hell. A beautiful but dangerous face that most people will see last in their lives. Henry Rollins mimes a diabolical priest who acts as a lousy man behind.
Jesse Hughes (Eagles Of Death Metal) plays a bounty hunter who kills for money. In Gutterdämmerung, he works for the very people he detests in real life - namely those who use lying morals as oppression. Lemmy Kilmister plays a crazy general who commands the armed tank division. Tom araya (Slayer) plays a mysterious messenger of darkness who is rumored to bring "the light" and set the screen on fire. Volbeat (Michael & Rob) exchange their guitars for flamethrowers in order to survive the apocalyptic battle of the Gutterdämmerung. Mark lanegan (ex-Queens Of The Stone Age) plays a gravedigger who meets our heroine Juliette and has to deal with strange visitors who want his soul, which leads to psychedelic consequences. Joshua homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) has put down the guitar and instead brings death with his bazooka, poetically called the 'Supremacy of Death'. Justice (Xavier de Rosnay & Gaspard Augé) quickly find out what happens when you touch the sacred guitar - probably not good? Slash starts the search for the "phallic instrument of external torment" - like a thief in the night, but with the cool style of a rock'n'roll ghost. And Nina Hagen makes a sudden and unexpected appearance as the high priestess of punk.
Kevin Armstrong, an English rock guitarist, record producer and songwriter, is the musical director of Gutterdämmerung. He is best known for his work with David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Morrissey. The live band, which is present at every performance, will only play rock and metal classics, which give the film the right atmosphere and depth. On May 6th, the probably loudest silent film in the world "Gutterdämmerung" celebrates its premiere at White Trash in Berlin. Admission is at 19 p.m., start at 20 p.m.
