Comic-Con is currently taking place in San Diego and for the past 7 years this has meant that zombie fans have been presented with a trailer for «The Walking Dead». Fans can look forward to a first look at Ezekiel and Tiger Shiva, including Negan's tyranny in Alexandria. The excitement for this preview has, if you ask me, waned every year and has hit rock bottom since the horrific and disastrous Season 6 finale.
Can the new trailer change anything? No not true! You have to give credit to the creatives behind the show for conjuring up Ezekiel, his kingdom and above all Shiva almost one-to-one on the screen. But even with the implementation of Negan you could see how quickly everything can go down the drain, despite good actors, a fantastic set-up and a harmonious atmosphere. And so after a little more than three minutes I only have a lot of disappointment about this screwed-up adaptation of a great comic. I don't really understand why that is. Despite previous disappointments, after the Comic-Con trailers I was always in good spirits that everything could get better. But in this trailer, neither the selection of songs that would otherwise sweep you away, nor this completely desaturated look of this world, which has somehow become natural in the last few seasons, is right. That's a suitable stylistic device, of course, but it makes the series incredibly ugly and it's a pretty cheap means of giving this world character when the budget is not enough.
Once again we are catapulted back to the dramatic minutes from the miserable finale: Negan counting through the ranks of the survivors. Whenever his baseball bat points to Lucille at one of the characters, we see an emotional flashback to the past. From Glenn and Maggie's first romantic steps, to Rick's love for his daughter Judith, to the deep friendship between Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier. Anyone who has been waiting for new scenes from the 7th season of "The Walking Dead" should take a closer look at the second part of the approximately 3-minute video. Here we get a first glimpse of the Kingdom in which Ezekiel reigns. At his side is his animal companion, Tiger Shiva! Morgan and Carol seem to be enjoying their time in the new community. Also in focus is Negan's position among the Saviors and how he extends that to Alexandria. His psychological terror begins. All must submit to him. Negan struts through the streets almost like a god, people have to get on their knees in front of him and pay him respect. He uses his position and the fear he has triggered with his violence. Alexandria is in the hands of Negan and the Saviors.
The promo images for Season 7 reflect the depressing mood from the cliffhanger finale. All of the main characters come into contact with Negan's baseball bat, Lucille. But only in the new episodes will we see which character it actually hit and who we have to say goodbye to. The following portraits show us the eleven characters who were overwhelmed by the Saviors in the cliffhanger finale of Season 6 «The Walking Dead». And in the trailer we can puzzle for three minutes how the group around Glenn, Rosita, Daryl, Michonne, Abraham, Maggie, Rick, Sasha, Aaron, Carl and Eugene will continue in October.
